Raw Sugar, Raw talent
by admin on May.09, 2011, under Fashion, The Latest
Since Indigo Joker branched out into the fashion styling services, we have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to work on numerous high-end fashion & beauty shoots with a bevy of exciting emerging local talent from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Fresh faced models, insanely talented photographers, masterful make-up artists & skilled hair and beauty stylists all make up a team that is required to pull off a polished and professional end result.
A recent shoot that i was personally booked to direct the fashion and style element of was one conceptualized by a very talented young brisbane based photographer named: Rachel Aust.
Rachel’s work first became known to me via Face-book where i would see some of her images pop up here and there through various mutual friends’ pages. Her crisp and captivating style, teamed with her amazing use of color and contrast allows each one of her images to stand alone as a strong & powerful solo shot or alternatively a series of harmonious and free flowing imagery that tells a enchanting story to it’s viewer. Our shoot (appropriately named: RAW SUGAR) was no exception.
Shot in the forest grounds of Pizzy Park in Miami (Gold Coast) who would have ever thought a location so local to us all could look more like it was derived from a backdrop more suited to a canadian woodland landscape. However the moody and slightly dark aspect to this series gives it the perfect edge that evokes a feeling of mystery and grandeur when you look into the eyes of this disturbed beauty.
From the moment i met Rachel, i took an instant liking to her and the way in which she worked on our shoot. So free and easy, void of the use of any technical lighting or heavy equipment like so many other shoots require and knew precisely what she wanted in order for her visual story to be told in the exact way in which she had imagined it to be.
I thought i’d take 5 minutes out from the day to ask her a couple of questions:
Q: How old are you?
A: I am nineteen years of age.
Q: What made you get into Fashion & Beauty photography?
A: I have always been a creative person, and as a creative person there is always an idea in my head which has to be made. Once I realised I was becoming skilled enough to execute these ideas I decided I would be able to do the same for designers, hair salons and various other clients. I like to be able to unburden the designer of their vision. I also find the ever-changing aesthetics of fashion photography and the evolution of fashion trends to be extremely intriguing.
Q: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
A: I become inspired by things which do not seem very cohesive, such as strange music I find late at night, the weather, colours, a constant drive to get better, and obviously the work of other photographers.
Q: Who would you most like to do a photo-shoot with someday?
A: There is not a certain person whom I would like to photograph, as the faces of fashion change even more quickly than the trends and I have never had a set ‘favourite’. However, there are brands which I have long-term aspirations of shooting for, such as Prada and Jean-Paul Gaultier.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
A: In five years time I would love to be shooting internationally. I am always dreaming big, but realistically if I could not be overseas in such a short time frame I would love to be living in Sydney and be signed to a creative agency as a fashion, beauty and editorial photographer.

Without giving too much away at this early stage in the process we thought we’d show you just a couple of visuals that have inspired us, giving a hint of the slightly darker, more structured path we are leaning towards for the next installment of the IJ chapter.
Stay tuned for more details as they unfold…

‘Bright Lights’ & ‘Visual Delights’
by admin on Jan.30, 2011, under Fashion, The Latest
We topped off a busy week of styling (for some delectable fashion shoots with some crazy, talented teams) with a hot chai latte, a tim-tam (or two) and a pile as big as my washing basket of fresh new European Runway Fashion trend mags that were so graciously delivered to us here at the IJ studios by a ‘very special secret someone’ (you know who you are- thank you gorgeous girl!)
What better way to spend a weekend! Between the the clicking of camera’s, pinning of garments & flicking thru the thick, glossy pages for visual inspirations, i think i’ve been in a bubble of bliss & not sure if i’m ready to come out just yet.
But as the new week approaches & our ‘to do list’ grows even larger, anticipation for what lies ahead is what makes our curiosity clock tick!
Just a couple of snaps of what our eyes have been feasting on these past few days that we thought we’d share with you…
On location @ Snapper Rocks with Chris Fatseas, Nat Dowell & Chloe Mutu
In the studio with Dimi K, Sally Rutten & Angie Purves

It’s all about the ‘Camel/Beige & Nude’ tones this AW2011

We know it’s been a while since our last post but it’s a testament to how busy things have been here at the Indigo Joker studio’s.
As we watch the last of our Spring/Summer garments leave our doors & head towards their new temporary homes (all our fantastic stockists across Australia), we feel a sense of satisfaction, happiness & most of all…excitement to know that Aussie Fashionista’s will soon be wearing our pieces & enjoying a little summer “IJ” L♥VE too!

Each & every denim piece from our Spring/Summer 2010 range (that’ll be dropping into stores early Sept) will have it’s own special stamp of uniqueness added to it, no two are exactly the same, in order to ensure individuality is kept ♥

Splendour in the Grass – Style update
by admin on Aug.03, 2010, under Fashion
Well, what a weekend it was for all the music loving Aussies who made the pilgrimage to the annual ‘Splendour in the Grass’ Festival 2010 – this time held at Woodford for it’s 10 year anniversary. Our first ever ‘Splendour Experience’ & we were certainly not disappointed with the incredible line up of amazing music from both local and interational acts.
Another aspect to the festival was of course, some of the unique and quirky festival fashions seen worn both on the ground and on stage by performers and dwellers alike. So amongst all the madness, we managed to take a few snaps of some of the stylish outfits we saw roaming around over the 3 day period + a little re-cap on what some of our personal favorite performers were wearing on the night!
Natalia makes wellington boots look cool by partnering them up with some cut-out leggings, cute summer shorts & a simple zebra print tank top (oh & can’t forget the hot sunnies)
Hannah rocks the ‘docs’ & a cool smoke print tee over leggings. The chiffon cloak was found in an op shop for $2 – Nice score!
